Tucci's screwball period comedy lacks the richness and depth of character of his directorial debut, Big Night. But The Imposters does offer a laugh at every turn, thanks in part to a talented ensemble cast. Fleeing what they think is a fatal squabble, starving actors Maurice (Platt) and Arthur (Tucci) stowaway on a boat. They're horrified to learn that the man they thought they left for dead, actor Jeremy Burtom (Molina), is also on board. Maurice and Arthur ham it up in disguise as they evade Burtom's fury. The other passengers on the ship of fools recall stock characters from classic Hollywood, with Dana Ivey playing a penniless socialite looking for a rich husband for her daughter (Davis), a suicidal lounge singer (Buscemi), a deposed queen (Rossellini) and a con-artist couple (Jenkins and Janney).
