Japan's celebrated Renaissance man Takeshi Kitano has a résumé that includes comedy, writing, acting, painting and directing. All of these talents shine in his tough but tender dramatic thriller about a cop (Kitano) who gets fed up with the violence he witnesses (and perpetuates) on the force. Grief-stricken by the death of his daughter, his wife's leukemia (Kishimoto) and a police buddy (Osugi) who gets shot, he seeks both revenge on the streets and peace with his ailing wife.
