thoroughbred trainer who saddled Citation to the final two legs of the 1948 Triple Crown and two additional Kentucky Derby winners; won 54 stakes races and trained seven champion horses during his career from 1926-64; country's leading trainer five times (1947-49, 1957, 1961); first trainer to surpass the $1 million mark in earnings; son of Hall of Famer Ben Jones; began working with his father at Woolford Farm until 1939 when they moved to Caulmet Farm; served as director of racing at Monmouth Park after retiring from Caulmet; inducted into National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame in 1959.
