Hall of Fame quarterback who became a star when he replaced Bobby Layne in 1957 and led the Detroit Lions to their last NFL championship; played for Green Bay from 1950-56; led the league in touchdown passes, passing yards, and TDs in 1955; traded to Detroit in 1957 after the Packers drafted Bart Starr in 1956; played for Toronto of the CFL from 1960-62 and broke all of the team's passing records; played for San Diego and Denver of the AFL and retired after the 1966 season; led Rice University to a Southwest Conference title in 1949. He died of a heart attack.
