Charlotte Hornets shooting guard/small forward recognized as the team's leader and best defender on the court as well as an active volunteer off it; drafted and released by Milwaukee in 1991; after a stint in CBA, signed a free-agent contract with Cleveland of the NBA and played six seasons with the Cavs; signed free-agent deal with Charlotte before 1997-98 season; career: 11.0 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 2.7 apg; finalist for the NBA's sportsmanship award in 1998; founded the Bobby Phills Educational Foundation. He died of injuries sustained in a car accident that occurred after he left a team practice.
