No stranger to the campaign trail, she stumped for her husband, former Senate leader Bob Dole, in his unsuccessful runs for the White House in 1980, 1988, and 1996. Despite a promising start, she failed to match the small fortune raised by competitor George W. Bush. Dole announced in October that she was stepping out of the race due to insufficient funds.
