• Jobs and Unemployment Both Decrease in August (Sept. 4): According to the Labor Department, the U.S. economy adds only 173,000 jobs in August. That is below the 220,000 jobs predicted by economists. The unemployment rate falls from 5.3% in July to 5.1% in August, the lowest since 2008.
