For the first time, in 2008, China took top billing as the world's largest energy producer. The United States, meanwhile, has the dubious honor of being the biggest consumer. Here's a look at the world's top 10 energy consumers and producers.
Producers
In 2008, total world Btu production was 491 quadrillion Btus. "Btu" is the abbreviation for British thermal unit. One Btu is nearly equal to the amount of energy released when a wood match is burned.
