Intense African-American actor whose work has ranged from Shakespeare's Othello (1995) to the urban mini-classic Boyz N The Hood (1991). Fishburne's turn as Ike Turner in What's Love Got to Do With It (1993) earned him a Best Actor Oscar nomination. While more recently known for serious work, one of Fishburne's early roles was as Cowboy Bob on Pee-wee's Playhouse (1986). Fishburne played Morpheus in The Matrix (1999), The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions (both 2003), and had a major role in Clint Eastwood's critically acclaimed Mystic River (2003). His 2006 movies included Akeelah and the Bee, Mission: Impossible III, and Bobby.
