Tell us about your work---what do you do? I coordinate youth sports and youth-related community events . What skills are needed? You need to work well with people, especially children . You also need to be adept at problem solving , and have good organizational, management, and leadership skills . What was your major? I have a degree in Business Management and Marketing . How did you get started in your career? I was requested to coach a junior high school volleyball team, which has never won a championship. We won the divisional title that season and I continued to work with children in youth sports . What experience do you need in this job? You need to have experience working with children, you need to be able to teach and inspire them. Management experience is a helpful asset in order to manage the different personalities and skills of the kids and the staff. Describe your "typical" workday: The typical workday is usually spent on the phone coordinating upcoming events . Meetings are also a vital part of my day. What is the hardest aspect of your job? The hardest aspect of this job is working long hours during certain holidays. Our job is recreation or the "fun" business and the people want to have fun when they are not working. So we work when everyone else is off work. What is the most rewarding aspect of your job? The most rewarding aspect of this job is the reason I changed into this career. If you could make an impact on children's lives by teaching them or bringing them joy and putting a smile on their face, then your actions can continue to live on well after you have departed this world. What are your suggestions for someone considering this field? You must love working with children , if you work with a passion for children and making their lives brighter, then you will go far in this career.
