Tell us about your work---what do you do? I work as part of a creative team of art directors and copywriters to conceptualize and execute print and broadcast advertising and promotion, as an art director. What skills are needed? Creative conceptual thinking, visual/design ability, teamwork, psychology, diplomacy, and presentation skills. What was your major? I have a B.A. in graphic design . How did you get started in your career? I started as an intern at a small, 21-person agency---doing everything from layouts to answering the phones. What experience do you need in this job? Perseverance, discipline, and years of art direction experience. Describe your "typical" workday: It's never the same thing twice: meetings with clients, concepting with my partner, presenting, getting ideas approved, getting ideas killed, photo shoots , casting, taste testing. What is the hardest aspect of your job? Keeping up with a fast pace in a competitive setting. What is the most rewarding aspect of your job? Having fun while working! What are your suggestions for someone considering this field? Go to a good school. Be open to critique. Follow your instincts about good ideas. Never burn bridges.
