Huntingdon

Huntingdon, town, Cambridgeshire, E central England, on the Ouse River. Seat of the Huntingdonshire dist., the town has light industries and an agricultural market. Oliver Cromwell was born in Huntingdon; both he and Samuel Pepys went to school there. Godmanchester, across from the Ouse, contains several farmhouses from the 16th and 17th cent. The two towns formerly were combined in the municipal borough (1961–74) and town (1974–82) of Huntingdon and Godmanchester.
