East Kilbride kĭlbrīd´ [key], town (1991 pop. 70,454), South Lanarkshire, S central Scotland. Established in 1946 under the New Towns Act to absorb the growing population of Glasgow , East Kilbride has engineering works and manufactures automobile and aircraft engines, textiles, and electronic equipment. A center for engineering research was established there. The town also bottles milk.
