Gadsden gădz´dən , city (1990 pop. 42,523), seat of Etowah co., NE Ala., on the Coosa River settled in 1846, inc. 1871. Iron, coal, limestone, sand, clay, and timber are found in the area. Gadsden has metal, textile, and electronics industries and a large tire and rubber plant. The city is home to Gadsden State Community College.
