Zrenjanin

Zrenjanin zrĕnyä´nēn [key], city (1991 pop. 81,316), NE Serbia, in the Vojvodina region of Serbia, on the Begej River. A river port and a railway center, it has industries that produce foodstuffs, sugar, beer, and other spirits. It was known as Nagybecskerek until its transfer (1918 confirmed 1920) from Hungary to Yugoslavia, and it was subsequently named Veliki Bečkerek (until the 1930s) and Petrovgrad (until 1947).
