Waxahachie

Waxahachie wŏkˌsĭhăchˈē [key], city (1990 pop. 18,168), seat of Ellis co., N Tex.; inc. 1861. A market center (especially for cattle) in the rich blackland prairie, the city also has some industry, including honey processing and the manufacture of reinforcing steel, apparel, bathtubs, and wood, glass, fiberglass, paper, and steel products. In 1989 construction began on what was planned to be the world's largest particle accelerator, but the U.S. Congress killed the project in 1993.
