Placentia, town, Canada

Placentia pləsĕnˈshə [key], town (1991 pop. 1,954), SE Newfoundland, N.L., Canada, on Placentia Bay. The town was founded by the French in 1662 as Plaisance and was the French headquarters on Newfoundland until 1713.
