Telica

Telica, active volcano, 3,481 ft (1,061 m), León dept., W Nicaragua, in the Cordillera de los Maribizos, 19 mi (30 km) N of the town of León. An explosive stratovolcano, it has six overlapping cones. Its largest vent is a double crater 2,300 ft (700 m) wide and 390 ft (120 m) deep. Eruptions have been recorded there from 1529 into the 21st cent. Though bare of vegetation and covered with ash on most of its upper slopes (due to its frequent activity), Telica is a popular tourist site.
