Røros

Røros röˈrōs [key], town (1995 est. pop. 5,400), Sør-Trøndelag co., E Norway, near the Swedish border. It is a tourist spot and a winter sports center. The copper mines in the vicinity, opened in 1644, were for many years the most important in Norway.
