Mackay

Mackay məkīˈ [key], city and region (2016 pop. 114,969), Queensland, NE Australia on the Pioneer River. A port city, Mackay exports sugar, beef, and coal. The surrounding shire of Pioneer was amalgamated into Mackay in 1991, and the region of Mackay was established in 2008 by amalgamating the city with two more neighboring shires, Mirani and Sirina.
