Sinabung, Mount

Sinabung, Mount sĭnäˈbo͞ong [key], volcano, North Sumatra prov., central N Sumatra, Indonesia, rising to 8,071 ft (2,460 m). A conically shaped stratovolcano, Sinabung lies c.40 mi (65 km) SW of Medan. After possibly lying dormant four centuries or more (an unconfirmed eruption may have occurred in 1881), it erupted in 2010. A new, ongoing eruption subsequently began in 2013.
