Akashi Kaikyo Bridge

Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, vehicular suspension bridge, S Honshu, Japan, across the Akashi Strait, a busy shipping lane, linking the city of Kobe with Awaji Island and part of a link between Honshu and Shikoku islands. It was completed in 1998. Built to withstand the region's severe storms and earthquakes, the bridge is 12,828 ft (3,991 m) long the main span of 6,532 ft (1,991 m) is the world's longest suspension span.
