Ekurhuleni

Ekurhuleni, metropolitan municipality, Gauteng prov., NE South Africa. Ekurhuleni largely encompasses the East Rand region of Gauteng. Germiston is the municipal seat; other communities include Katlehong, Tembisa, Boksburg, Vosloorus, Tsakane, Daveyton, Etwatwa, Kempton Park, Benoni, Springs, and Brakpan. Gold mining and processing and the manufacture of liquid oxygen are the most important industries. O. R. Tambo International Airport, the Johannesburg metropolitan region's airport, is in Ekurhuleni, and several airlines are headquartered there. It is also a rail hub.
