Schwarzenberg, Karl Philipp, Fürst zu

Schwarzenberg, Karl Philipp, Fürst zu fürst tso͞o shvärˈtsənbĕrk [key], 1771–1820, Austrian field marshal and diplomat. In 1810 he was made ambassador to France, and he led the Austrian forces sent to aid Napoleon I in the Russian campaign of 1812. When Austria joined (1813) the allies against Napoleon, Schwarzenberg was the senior general of the victorious coalition. He commanded at Leipzig (1813) and entered Paris in 1814.
