Nyusi, Filipe Jacinto

Nyusi, Filipe Jacinto, 1959–, Mozambican political leader. An engineer by training, he worked as a manager for Mozambique's ports and railways authority before entering politics as a member of Frelimo. He was appointed defense minister (2008–14) and elected to the party's central committee in 2012. In 2014 Nyusi was elected president of Mozambique, succeeding Armando Guebuza , and in 2015 he became president of Frelimo.
