Veríssimo, Érico Lopes

Veríssimo, Érico Lopes ĕ´rēko͝o lo͝opəs vərēs´sēmo͝o [key], 1905–75, Brazilian writer. Veríssimo lectured and taught in the United States. He wrote (in English) Brazilian Literature (1945). His best-known novel is Caminhos cruzados (1935 tr. Crossroads, 1943). His other works include two studies of North American culture and Mexico (1957, tr. 1960). He was director (1953–56) of the Dept. of Cultural Affairs of the Pan-American Union. Veríssimo's fiction has been published as Ficção completa (1966–67).
