García Icazbalceta, Joaquín

García Icazbalceta, Joaquín hwäkēnˈ gärsēˈä ēkäsbälsāˈtä [key], 1824–94, Mexican philologist, bibliographer, and historian. He edited the works of many early Mexican writers, compiled the Bibliografía mexicana del siglo XVI (1880), wrote the masterly biography Don Fray Juan de Zumárraga (1881), and translated foreign historical works, notably W. H. Prescott's Conquest of Mexico.
