Spinello di Luca Spinelli

Spinello di Luca Spinelli spēnĕl´lō dē lo͞o´kä spēnĕl´lē [key], c.1346–1410, Italian painter, usually called Spinello Aretino from his birthplace, Arezzo. He was a leading exponent of the late Giottesque style (see Giotto ). He painted frescoes of the life of St. Benedict (Church of San Miniato, Florence) that were restored by a later painter, and the history of Pope Alexander III (Palazzo Pubblico, Siena). Several of his altarpieces are in the Academy, Florence two paintings of the Madonna and Child are in the Fogg Museum, Cambridge and St. Mary Magdalen is in the Metropolitan Museum.
