Childebert I

Childebert I chĭlˈdəbərt [key], d. 558, Frankish king, son of Clovis I. On his father's death (511) he and his three brothers shared equally in the Frankish kingdom. His capital was at Paris. When his brother Clodomir died (524), he and another brother Clotaire I murdered Clodomir's sons and seized his lands. With Clotaire he shared in the reconquest and partition of Burgundy and Provence (534) and unsuccessfully campaigned in Spain (542).
