Brennus, d. 279 BC, Gallic leader. He was in command of the band of Gauls (or Galatians) who invaded Greece in 279 BC At first halted at Thermopylae, he later turned and took the pass into Doris. He was wounded in an unsuccessful attack on Delphi and is supposed to have committed suicide on the northward retreat after the Gauls were attacked by the Thessalians.
