Codrington, Sir Edward

Codrington, Sir Edward kŏdˈrĭngtən [key], 1770–1851, British admiral. He held various commands in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars, taking part in the battle of Trafalgar (1805) and serving (1810–13) in the Mediterranean. He commanded the combined British, French, and Russian fleet that in 1827 destroyed the Turkish and Egyptian fleets in the battle of Navarino.
