Howe, Henry

Howe, Henry, 1816–93, American historian, b. New Haven, Conn. Howe is known for his Historical Collections of the State of New York (1841), Historical Collections of the State of New Jersey (1845), Historical Collections of Ohio (3 vol., 1847), and similar works. He went into nearly every community in these states gathering his material first hand from pioneers and local chroniclers. His original drawings and sketches of towns and buildings give his works much of their present value.
