Purvits, Vilhelms

Purvits, Vilhelms vĭlˈhĕlms po͝orˈvĭts [key], 1872–1945, Latvian landscape painter. He was director of the Latvian Academy of Art at Riga and was director of the city museums and professor at the Univ. of Latvia. A follower of the school of French impressionism, he developed a colorful style of his own. His work can be seen in museums in Riga, Tallinn, Stockholm, St. Petersburg, and Moscow.
