Hewlett, Maurice Henry

Hewlett, Maurice Henry hyo͞oˈĭt [key], 1861–1923, English novelist, essayist, and poet. He is best known for his historical romances, such as The Forest Lovers (1898; based on Malory), The Life and Death of Richard Yea-and-Nay (1900), and The Queen's Quair (1904). His enthusiasm for Italian culture is reflected in his essays, Earthwork out of Tuscany (1895) and The Road in Tuscany (1904). His poetry includes Song of the Plow (1916).
