  • Feb. 14, southwestern Ga.: Series of tornadoes struck the southwestern part of the state. Eighteen people were killed and more than 100 were injured.
  • Feb. 26, southern Philippines: 2 buses bombed while being transported on a ferry near Ozamis City. The explosions left 41 dead and more than 45 injured. A third bus exploded in nearby Rizal, killing an additional five people. Terrorist links under investigation.
  • February, southeastern Africa: Weeks of rain resulted in deadly floods. More than 200,000 were left homeless in Mozambique and another 80,000 in Zimbabwe. Madagascar also affected. About 700 people total were killed.
