  1. the hard-shelled fruit of any of various plants, esp. those of Lagenaria sicerariawhose dried shell is used for bowls and other utensils, and Cucurbita pepoused ornamentally. Cf. gourd family.

  4. a gourd-shaped, small-necked bottle or flask.
