Brewer's: Mincing Lane

(London). A corruption of Mynchen Lane; so called from the tenements held there by the mynchens or nuns of St. Helen's, in Bishopsgate Street. (Minicen, Anglo-Saxon for a nun; minchery, a nunnery.)
