FDA: Hold the Salt

On June 1, 2016, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announces new guidelines for sodium. Targeting major food manufacturers and chain restaurants, the new policies are designed to reduce salt in processed and prepared food, allowing consumers the choice of whether to add the condiment or not. According to the FDA, The average American consumes nearly 50% more sodium than recommended by most experts and contributes to high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease.
