  • 6.4 Magnitude Earthquake Kills Several in Taiwan (Feb. 6): A 6.4 magnitude earthquake hits Taiwan and kills at least 59 people. The death toll is expected to rise with 76 people still missing, presumably trapped under one collapsed residential building, according to Taiwan's Ministry of Interior. Three executives from the construction company of the collapsed building are arrested under suspicion of negligence. • Einstein's Century-Old Theory Proven True (Feb. 11): Scientists announce that they have heard and recorded audio of two black holes colliding into each other a billion light-years from earth. It is the first evidence of gravitational waves, completing the final piece in Albert Einstein's general theory of relativity. It proves the most unpopular part of Einstein's theory, that within the universe, space and time are connected and changeable.
