- After a sudden heart attack on Dec. 13, 2016, the iconic television dad, Alan Thicke, dies at the age of 69. Thicke, the father of singer Robin Thicke, is known for his role as the dad in the popular sitcom "Growing Pains," which aired from 1985 to 1992. People throughout the industry are expressing their grief. Born in 1947 in Canada, Thicke moved to the United States to start his career in Hollywood; he had great success as a star, a host, and a screenwriter.
