The London label's Entartete Musik series of works suppressed by the Third Reich has yielded lots of surprises but none more delightful than this operatic adaptation of Aristophanes' The Birds. The musical style hails from the lush harmonies of Richard Strauss but also conveys the peace and freedom of the avian world. The cast features such distinguished lieder singers as Matthias Gorne and Wolfgang Holzmair.
