The Thomas Crown Affair is the latest in post-Bond high-rolling innuendo, from the double-entendre title on down. Billionare Thomas Crown (Pierce Brosnan) is bored. So he decides to heft a Monet out of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Catherine Banning (Rene Russo) suspects suave Mr.Crown from the start. Hardly one to keep a secret, she informs him that he's guilty and kicks off a game of wits and sexual tension. While the action scenes are classy, the romance is exorbitant (but not without that shallow materialistic appeal). Russo easily outpaces Brosnan. Dennis Leary puts in a good performance as a police officer who lets unofficial feelings slip through the cracks when dealing with her.

Sleek, glitzy entertainment.
