The 1976 original certainly made for an interesting prom night. Guidance counselor Sue Snell (Amy Irving) was one the few survivors of Carrie's telekinetic bloodbath (and the only cast member to reappear in the remake). High school's predatory milieu — played out smartly in Stephen King's classic — surfaces a second time with an awkward, unconvincing rhythm. Here's the plot: brutish boy meets and deflowers innocent girl, who, thus shattered, kills herself. The girl's suicide leads her best friend, Rachel (Bergl), a Goth pariah who possesses Carrie's telekinetic talent, to rage.
