Rudolph, Wilma Glodean

Rudolph, Wilma Glodean, 1940–94, American track and field athlete, b. Clarksville, Tenn. The 20th of 22 children, she overcame childhood polio to become one of the premiere athletes of her time. She won three gold medals at the 1960 Olympics in the 100-m and 200-m races and the 4×100-m relay. In 1961 she won the James E. Sullivan Memorial Award, given annually to the top American amateur athlete.
