Egypt ēˈjĭpt [key], Arab. Misr, biblical Mizraim, officially Arab Republic of Egypt, republic (2021 est. pop. 105,093,906), 386,659 sq mi (1,001,449 sq km), NE Africa and SW Asia. It borders on the Mediterranean Sea in the north, Israel and the Red Sea in the east, Sudan in the south, and Libya in the west. Egypt's capital and largest city is Cairo. In addition to the capital, major cities include Alexandria, Port Said, Suez, Tanta, and Aswan.
