former administrator of the federal procurement office in the White House Office of Management and Budget, was convicted in June of four counts of lying and obstructing justice in connection with the Jack Abramoff corruption scandal. The jury found that Safavian knew about, assisted in, and lied about illegal activities involving Abramoff. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison in November.
