Benjamin ELLICOTT, Congress, NY (1765-1827)

ELLICOTT Benjamin , a Representative from New York; born in Bucks County, Pa., April 17, 1765; accompanied his brothers in 1789 to upper Canada on the survey to determine the western boundary of the State of New York; employed as a surveyor and draftsman for the Holland Land Co. in New York and Pennsylvania; one of the first judges of the court of common pleas of Genesee County, N.Y., in 1803, with residence in Batavia; elected as a Republican to the Fifteenth Congress (March 4, 1817-March 3, 1819); unsuccessful candidate for election in 1820 to the Seventeenth Congress; retired from active life, and in 1826 moved to Williamsville, Erie County, N.Y., where he died December 10, 1827; interment in the graveyard at Williamsville; reinterment in Batavia Cemetery, Batavia, N.Y., in 1849.
