Hawaiian-born boxer, who was named Ring magazine's fighter of the year in 1953 for defeating Randy Turpin for the middleweight championship; lost the title two years later to Sugar Ray Robinson, who would beat him three more times in his career; compiled 99-16-2 record with 49 knockouts in 117 career fights; inducted into World Boxing Hall of Fame in 1958 and International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2000. He died after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
