The best thing that can be said about Practical Magic is that it handles witchcraft tastefully, being careful not to offend modern witches. Oh, and let's not forget all that long, silky hair. The Owens sisters, wild child Gillian (Kidman) and homebody Sally (Bullock), both witches, can't seem to keep men around — or alive. When Gillian's abusive boyfriend, Jimmy (Visnjic), turns up dead, a little hocus pocus brings him back, but he reemerges even more dangerous. Channing and Wiest are wasted as the women's aunts who are sent packing too early on. Aidan Quinn shows up as a detective in pursuit of Jimmy and casts his own spell on Sally.
