In order to ascend the ranks from copy editor to newspaper reporter, Josie Geller (Drew Barrymore) must go undercover to get the inside dirt on high school. The second time around Josie's still a social misfit, so her effortlessly hip brother (David Arquette) enrolls to help her step into coolness. She tiptoes into a seemingly taboo romance with the English teacher (Michael Vartan). Barrymore emerges as quite a comedienne. The skilled (and fearless) actress places herself into many self-deprecating scenes involving clumsiness, bad hair and bad skin, social ineptitude, and the obligatory prom, although as a whole the movie is not a night to remember.
